The Story Behind Foundry24
Hey, I'm Robbie. I'm a software engineer, a husband, and a dad to a 4-year-old and a 7-year-old. I've been a Christian for about 30 years now, and I'm still working on it. That part never stops.
Here's what happened. I wanted a devotional app. Specifically, I wanted something for men that wasn't shallow. And I kept downloading apps that were either really surface-level (like a nice quote over a sunset) or super dense theological content that I wasn't going to open at 6am before the kids woke up. I couldn't find the thing I was looking for.
So I decided to build what I couldn't find. I write software for a living, might as well use it.
But the more I thought about it, the more I realized the problem wasn't just with men's devotionals. My wife needed something different than I did. Couples we know wanted something they could do together. The youth group at our church was using stuff that felt like it was written by someone who hadn't talked to a teenager in fifteen years.
That's Foundry24. Each app is built for a specific group of people, because a 35-year-old dad and a 16-year-old kid shouldn't be reading the same devotional in the same format. It just doesn't work that way.
Why "Foundry"? A foundry is where metal gets shaped. Heat, pressure, repetition. Faith works the same way. You don't wake up one day and you're done. You show up, you read, you pray, you do it again tomorrow.
How We Think About This
Start with Scripture
Not a motivational quote with a verse tacked on. The Bible is the content. Everything else is there to help you engage with it.
Short and Real
Five minutes that actually mean something. You've got kids to feed and a job to get to. We're not going to waste your morning.
Know the Audience
A dad in his 30s and a kid in high school are in different places. So we build different apps. Seems obvious, but most devotional apps don't do this.
Just Show Up
You're not going to nail it every day. That's fine. The point is to keep showing up. These apps are built to make that easier, not to guilt you when you miss a day.
